Ouch! writing that check to Amana Takaful really hurts a lot. So I checked around to see if I am overpaying - guess what I was overpaying by Rs 11,000! This really shook me so I guess I want to share this experience with you all.
The companies that I shortlisted for quotes:
- Ceylinco - VIP (Rs 71,300)
- Sri Lanka Insurance - “formula world”(Rs 68,902)
- Eagle Insurance (Rs 67,752)
- and Amana Takaful of course (Rs 80,387)
As you can see the clear winner is Eagle with the lowest quote but also with the fewest facilities. VIP was attractive but only after sales rep gave part of his commission too!
So I opted for Sri Lanka Insurance - there service isn’t the best but then again it depends on who your agent is - it is advisable to go through an agent especially when you need to make a claim the agent is useful.
I (generously) did allow Amana Takaful to make a better offer but they reduced the quote only by Rs 4105 - resulting in a significant loss for me. I declined their offer.
Of course you should always check the fine print especially the following:
- Towing charge allowance
- Personal accident benefit
- Windscreen cover/ airbag cover
- Allowance made when vehicle is being repaired/ replacement vehicle
- No claim bonus protection/ cover
- Multiple rebate offered
Please also check the attached file with details and comparison - may you too should compile a similar chart before renewing your insurance policy.
